Photographing Misha was my first assignment with the American Ballet Theatre. Of course I was nervous. I was a young dance photographer and had five minutes to take an important portrait . Mishe walked in wearing a suit. Not what I imagined for "my" portrait of one of the most amazing dancers of all time. I whipped through a couple of rolls and wasn't happy with what I was getting. He looked like an uncomfortable executive. I told Mishe to remove his jacket and asked for one minute of complete relaxtion and focus on the camera. I started shooting again and the pictures I wanted appeared through the viewfinder. It took only 30 seconds to shoot off the next 20 images and almost every one was perfect. This is still one of my favorite portraits.
